Calderstones

Single Storey / Rear Extension / Dining Room

This single storey extension on Calderstones, in Whalley, replaces an old and cold conservatory, with a new vibrant and exciting dining room.

Client: Private

Type: Single storey extension & Kitchen refurbishment

Location: Whalley, Lancashire

Size: 20sqm

Status: Planning

What’s in it: Dinning room, exposed timber structure, roof lightwell, bespoke panelling & joinery, picture window, full-height glazing, stacked soldier brickwork.

Red soldier bricks.

The new addition offers an unusual roof profile that compliments the existing home, and provides increased height internally. The shape is emphasized externally with a simple yet creative twist on the existing materials of the house, with a vertically stacked soldier red brick top above and render finished base.

Letting the light in.

The client wished to maximise the natural light entering the new dining room, without replicating the existing conservatory. Full height windows and a large rooflight keep the room warmly lit and inviting, whilst maintaining privacy and comfort.

Vibrant interior.

Wanting to add a more personality to the space, the timber roof structure is left exposed, with bespoke panelling wrapping around the room, adding a pop of colour against a lighter colour palette.

“The external treatment keeps it simple yet creative, with a vertically stacked red brick and render finish. ”
